Abstract

Considering eytmological and ethnographical perspectives, this essay interrogates this question: "Concerning architecture, what does competency mean?" It delves into the postwar formation and evolution of architectural competencies and curricula in schools and professional institutes, their implications on present criteria and contemporary urgencies and knowledge acquisition by learners and practitioners of architecture today. This is the editorial essay to a double-issue collection of double-blind reviewed research papers examining competency in architectural education and professional practice.
