AbstractThe building sector is a major consumer of energy, accounting for approximately one third of the energy consumption in China. To achieve a sustainable and low-carbon society, it is essential to use energy more efficiently. Building Energy Service is an attractive way towards low carbon buildings through improving energy efficiency of existing high-energy-consumption buildings. After decades of development, the building energy service industry has made great achievements in China. However, there are still massive barriers restricting the development of building energy service industry. This research attempts to solve problems from the point of complexity theory for a deeper understanding of the synergy mechanism of the industry. The building energy service industry system can be regarded as a dissipative system which can develop from disorder to order spontaneously with the interaction between series of interrelated subsystems. Brusselator Model is utilized in this research to develop the structure of building energy service industry system and build an equation to verify whether the building energy service industry system is dissipative in accordance with the entropy method. According to the results, several effective suggestions are proposed to promote the building energy service industry development and this research is expanding the dissipative theory in the sustainable construction field, providing scientific basis for the policy making.
