Abstract | You only need eyes to appreciate the color change that occurs in a polymer matrix when the bistable rotaxane shown is switched between its ground-state (green) and metastable-state (red) co-conformers. Not only is an electrochromic device within reach, but a universal switching mechanism seems to be on the cards. (Figure presented). |
