AbstractThe interaction between a classical thermotropic discotic molecule and carbohydrate-based amphiphiles was reported. The liquid crystal (LC) properties of the resulting hybrids are described. In this new class of hybrid mesogens, the balance between the volumes occupied by the central hydrophobic regions and the sizes of the hydrophilic tips was observed. The hybrid mesogens influenced the nature of molecular arrangements associated with the columnar mesomorphism.
