Abstract | The principal aim of our research program is to probe the self-assembly of large, highly-ordered structures from unnatural components. Initially, we aimed to investigate the self-assembly of molecular structures containing some degree of molecular entanglement to prevent their component parts separating, i.e. catenanes and rotaxanes. Currently, our research is directly towards producing two long, linear systems which will spontaneously self-assemble to give a double-helical superstructure in solution. |
