AbstractIn the last decade, BIM in Hong Kong has been undergoing a rapid development. Yet a huge gap exists for public sector and private sector in the sense that BIM adoption in private sector is slow and the number of laggers is six times higher in the private sector than in the public sector, as reflected by BIM adoption surveys 2019 and 2020 conducted by CIC. This dissertation aims to conduct a survey in the same approach to obtain recent results and compare the BIM adoption situation in 2023 with the previous surveys. A self-administered questionnaire survey is sent to contractors and subcontractors to find out their adoption progress on BIM. Findings have concluded that key factors of BIM talent, compliance driven mindset and culture change are hindering the private sector to adopt BIM. Recommendations including BIM talent, Best Practice Demonstration, more standardized practice and support SMEs are given in this study.
