Abstract | A study of Daqing Oilfield development has been carried out because petroleum energy is
controversial while indispensable nowadays. The objective of the study was to review the
history of Daqing Oilfield and propose advices for its further development. Data has been
obtained from EIA and websites. The data has been interpreted in relation to the petroleum
system theory. It is concluded that 1. Every energy revolution is accompanied by at least one
breakthrough in geological theory. Geological theory plays a crucial role in each energy
revolution. 2. The discovery of Daqing Oilfield broke the dominance of marine oil theory and
has proved that large-scale oil fields can be formed as long as the conditions are met. 3.
There are both achievements and problems in the production process of Daqing Oilfield.
These experiences and lessons can be used for reference for the exploration and development
of terrestrial facies sandstone oil and gas fields all over the world. 4. Shale oil development
strategy of Daqing Oilfield: for high maturity reservoirs, the development means of marine
shale oil in North America can be partially used for reference. For low maturity reservoirs,
in-situ transformation technology needs to be solved.
