Abstract | Creativity is not just a characteristic of people. Spanning sectors from science and high-tech, research and knowledge industries, to media, music, design, and the arts, the creative economy is an increasingly important driver of innovation, jobs, and economic growth. The creative class, who work in those sectors, makes up a third or more of the workforce of the advanced nations. This entry discusses the rise of the creative industries and the creative economy, the creative class, creative cities, and the challenges posed by the emergence of creativity as a key factor in economic and social life. |
