Abstract | Recent advances in sensing technology gave rise to boomingly available, affordable, and big 3D data of constructions and cities. However, automatic 3D reconstruction from the big data remains very challenging. Evolutionary computation, which is a class of processors in the AI “toolkit,” sheds light for a new paradigm for the automation of 3D urban reconstruction. This talk will first revisit the fundamentals, history, and experience on evolutionary computation. The design and implantation, including the modeling of optimization problems, application of algorithms, and parameter tuning, will be presented for automating the decision making in reconstruction. We will briefly discuss how to apply general computational methods to the facilitation of the problem-solving in the real world. |
