AbstractThis article presents a one-year ‘Emoto’ project for male carers. In this project, photography is used as an intervention tool to work with this underrepresented group. Photos taken by voluntary photographers according to various ‘Qing’ (primary emotion) themes were used as the prominent means of communication. These photos encouraged male carers using nonverbal media to assist the expression of untold thoughts and unrecognized feelings. Besides responding to the growing psychological hardship of male carers in the community, the project aimed at informing practitioners and the general public about male carers’ needs.
