AbstractThe first magnetically controlled growing rod (MCGR) was implanted in a 5-year-old girl with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome in 2009. In the past decade, her successes and failures have shaped the development of the MCGR. These include loss of distraction, intraoperative implantation protocol, ideal distraction technique, dealing with proximal junctional kyphosis, clunking episodes and rod fracture.
