AbstractVehicular Delay-Tolerant Network(VDTN) is a new application of the Delay-Tolerant Network(DTN) concept, where vehicles cooperate with each other, acting as the network architecture, to handle non-real time communications at low-cost asynchronous opportun istic conditions. Although increasing kinds of semantic technologies, such as late binding and endpoint ID, have been applied in the application of VDTN, there are few network architectures to consider the semantic technologies. This paper proposes a semantic architecture for VDTNs, using ontology model, based on the hierarchic ontologies. It presents the knowledge shared by different layers and supports each layer's semantic technologies used. This paper provides a deep understanding of the semantic characteristics of VDTN, leading to insights for future theoretic study.
