Objective:To understand the mental health status of the general population in home quarantine in Ya’ an City during the COVID-19 epidemic. Methods:By using online questionnaire survey, the residents aged ≥ 15 years in Ya’ an were investigated during February 10-15,2020.The 12-item General Health Questionnaire(GHQ-12,poor mental health was defined as GHQ-12 total score ≥3),Self-rating Anxiety Scale(SAS,having anxiety symptoms was defined as SAS total score ≥50),and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index scale(PSQI,having sleep disorders was defined as PSQI total score ≥8) were used to assess mental health status, anxiety symptoms and sleep quality. Results:Among the 537 valid study participants,79 cases had poor mental health(14.7%),50 cases had anxiety symptoms(9.3%),and 69 cases had sleep disorders(12.8%).Logistics regression analysis showed that those aged ≥65 years were more likely to have poor mental health and anxiety symptoms(OR=4.21,9.87,Ps<0.05),those who were not too worried about the COVID-19 epidemic were less likely to have poor mental health, anxiety symptoms, and sleep disorder(OR=0.08,0.06,0.24,Ps<0.05),and those who lived in rural areas and knew a little or did not know the infectivity of COVID-19 were more likely to have sleep disorders(OR=2.99,2.97,Ps<0.05).Conclusion:During the COVID-19 epidemic old age may be a risk factor for poor mental health and anxiety symptoms among the general population in Ya’ an.Living in rural areas and lack of knowledges of COVID-19 infectivity are risk factors for sleep disorders.
