Abstract | The genes coding for the T-cell antigen receptor have recently been cloned. They have proven to be invaluable tools for the study of the molecular mechanisms governing T-cell recognition of foreign antigens associated with histocompatibility antigens. In addition, they have also provided sensitive means of detecting clonal cell populations and determining cell lineage. In this review we describe the general organisation of these genes, the results of their utilization in the analysis of hematological pathologies, and discuss the possible implications of the involvement of these genes in translocations observed in certain T-cell malignancies. © 1987. |
