AbstractA study aims at proposing a framework of fault-tolerant control (FTC) systems that are able to deal with simultaneous sensor and actuator faults. The FTCsystemis composed of a sensor FDDsystemand a reconfigurable controller. The sensor fault detection and diagnosis (FDD) system is designed by making use of an aircraft kinematicmodel that does not require actuator deflections. The detection and estimation of the sensor faults are resolved using an adaptive three-step unscented Kalman filter (ATS-UKF), which can estimate the state and fault in an unbiased sense. The unbiased state estimation is provided to the reconfigurable controller such that FTC in the presence of sensor faults is achieved.
