AbstractIn this AJPH editorial, the authors argue that as necessary as effective COVID-19 emergency measures are, governments around the world must never lose sight of the need that a proportionate balance ought to be struck between population health goals on the one hand, and “the fundamental rights and freedoms that are the lifeblood of transparent, accountable, and democratic government”, on the other.
