AbstractConstructions and development of the Lantau District have become one of the priorities of the HKSAR Government. Having adequate underground geological information of the area is crucial to the plans. This is a study of the Lantau Dyke Swarm for the purpose of acquiring knowledge of magmatic processes in the subduction zone. Seven types of dykes cropped out on Northern and Eastern Lantau Island have been closely examined. Data has been obtained by a series of fieldworks. A field report describing the seven sample dykes in detail is produced. Questions in terms of geologic sequence, transformation of magma source and encoded textural information are discussed. It is concluded that the magmatism under the Lantau District during Mesozoic period was very dynamic.
