Abstract | In a “flipped classroom”, students will meet a topic for the first time online usually through short and informative videos. In the face-to-face ‘lecture’ time, they are expected to engage in classroom activities with their peers and the instructor to test and apply the knowledge and receive immediate feedback. A flipped class can be a challenge for both teachers and students alike if it lacks detailed planning and appropriate resources and support. We are a group of teachers, researchers, and educational developers at five universities in Hong Kong: The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University, City University of Hong Kong, The Education University of Hong Kong, and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Starting from July 2017, we initiated the project “Flipped Classroom Approach in Hong Kong Higher Education” (https://www.flippedclasshk.net/) to support the teachers who would like to adopt the flipped classroom approach to take full advantage of the new pedagogy andovercome the possible challenges. This workshop focuses on strategiesof five key components to enhance the effectiveness of flipped classroom approach, namely Exposure, Incentive, Activities, Assess and Evaluation. In this workshop, each university team will elaborate on how to apply the strategies to lead to a successful flip and demonstrate good practices derived from various teaching cases our project supported in the different institutions. |
