AbstractOyster mushroom is an edible mushroom but its pharmacological activities are not clear. Our studies have shown that the extract of oyster mushroom can improve the vasodilation response in diabetes mellitus. In addition, extract of oyster mushroom can enhance the anticancer effect but reduce the cardiotoxicity of doxorubicin. The mechanisms involved in the above pharmacological effects may be related to active ingredient inside known as ergothioneine, which is a very potent antioxidant. It is worthwhile to further study the application of oyster mushroom in the treatment of hypertension and cancer.
