AbstractThis paper examines the transnational life of a young man from Burma in the 1860s-70s. Moung Kyaw commissioned cartes-de-visite photos that he sold to fund his education in the United States at Colgate University in upstate New York. These early photos, which depict Kyaw in both US and Burman attire, reveal how Kyaw navigated nation, religion, and education as he lived across multiple cultures.
