| Abstract | This thesis discusses how mainland China interlocutors construct meaning of
image macros in their online conversations. The process of constructing
meaning is argued to be a process of conceptual blending of a conversational
mental space and an image macro mental space. The eventual meaning is
constructed in a blended space, which contains both the properties of a
conversation and the information provided by image macros.
