AbstractWhile there is a widespread belief that mentoring contributes to adolescents’ resilience development which is crucial to prepare them for an uncertain future, research has not yet made clear which specific attributes of mentoring leads to positive outcomes. To this end, the current study draws on sociocultural theories to explore useful mentoring strategies to nurture resilience in an extracurricular programme for secondary school students in Hong Kong. Informed by mentees’ reflections and mentors’ interviews, four effective strategies, i.e. Risk Exposure, Reframing Adversities, Positive Modelling and Overall Support and Encouragement, have been identified and presented in situated scenarios.
