AbstractThe video demonstrated 3 transoral robotic surgery procedures using the new da Vinci SP robot in the first clinical trial of the da Vinci SP robot. The new da Vinci SP robot has a 3D HD endoscope with 3 6mm robotic arms all inserted in a 2.5cm cannula. The arms opens up in the oral cavity to achieve triangulation of the instruments. It was possible to employ all 3 robot arms during the procedures. The 3rd robotic arms is of special benefit to allow better retraction of the surgical sites while under the console surgeons control. The study concluded the new da Vinci SP surgical robot is as safe and effective in performing TORS procedures as the previous generation sugical robots. The new SP robot also has an added advantage of able to deploy the 3rd arm to assist the operation and give the robotic surgeon more flexibility and versatility during the surgical procedures.
