AbstractThis talk presents our work which uses simulation to analyze patient flows in a hospital emergency department (ED) in Hong Kong. This simulation approach provides a tool for the operations manager in the ED to assess the impact of changes in the system on the daily operations. We will discuss how simulation can be integrated into an optimization algorithm to aid decision-making. We will also present insights into managing ED operations derived from the simulation experiments.
