AbstractA special adhesive that is developed in IMR was used in preparation of CaO crucible. CaO refractory specimens were made by control of various parameters, such as particles distribution, forming pressure, sintering temperature and content of ZrO2 additive, and their mechanical and physical properties were measured. A new testing method - center heating technique was employed for quantitatively studying the thermal shock resistance of CaO refractory. The results show that ZrO2 additive can remarkably improve the thermal shock resistance of CaO refractory at the suitable particles distribution and sintering temperature.
