AbstractInternal friction in kHz range has been performed for single-phase HgBa 2 Ca 2 Cu 3 O 8+δ . The results indicate that two peaks of internal friction appear near 150K and 230K, respectively. X-ray diffraction exhibits a lattice parameter stepping at tens of Kelvin above T c . These anomalous phenomena are associated with lattice instabilities. Copyright © 1996 Elsevier Science Ltd.
