AbstractUltrasonic and internal friction measurements were performed on textured YBCO samples in the presence of a magnetic field from 100K to room temperature. The attenuation was observed to decrease monotonically with increasing magnetic field. The relaxation time of carriers can be derived from a quantitative analysis. At higher frequencies and low temperatures, an oscillatory variation of the attenuation with magnetic field was observed that may be related to an effect called magnetoacoustic geometric resonance. The periodicity can be used to obtain the Fermi momentum in further experiments. © 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
