AbstractThis presentation attempts to explore the ways in which Jewish and non-Jewish artists represented Jews in relation to Orientalism in the 19th and early 20th centuries. It will specifically look into three notions of Orientalism in depictions of Jewish people that arose in France (Western Europe), Poland (Eastern Europe) and Palestine (the Holy Land) during this period, and how these three notions were interlinked in the formation of Jewish identity.
