AbstractThe mean static pressure distributions on circular cylinders with a stepwise change in diameter, having a diameter ratio d/D of 0.36, 0.5 and 0.75, were examined at a Reynolds number, based on the maximum diameter, of 8 x 10 SUP 4. The pressure distributions on two dimensional circular cylinders and on a circular cylinder of finite length were also examined. The detailed measurements show the effect of the diameter discontinuity on the flow of the circular cylinders with the stepwise change. At smaller diameter ratio the discontinuity effect on the flow is much more extensive. Further, the effect is more extensive on the big cylinder than on the small cylinder. (A)
