AbstractZoos are shutting down all over the world. In 2016, proposals for closing all zoos in Costa Rica trigger great discussion among its citizens about the future of animals living in cities. Whether to shut down the zoos as well as how should we treat these city animals are the first two problems to solve. Through an analysis of animal relocation plans, wildlife habitat changes over time, and its implications for China, this thesis reveals that it is not the matter of relocation sites, but of solving human-animal conflicts, and raising the awareness of and respect for animal rights, through landscape planning and site proposals.
