AbstractWalking behavior has been extensively studied from various perspectives. In this paper, we review the influence of built environment on walking behavior and argue that a longitudinal design with the change of built environment can identify the real influences. We then present a location-based walking accessibility measure for the impact evaluation and describe its methodology with an illustration in a hilly topography community that is experiencing a built environment changes. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.
