AbstractThis study is to explore the housing needs and housing preferences among the youths who aged between 18 to 36. It is our post 80s and 90s generation in the society. In this study, it explained how housing could fulfil human needs, identified demographic characteristics that influence housing needs, discussed the impact of housing needs on housing preference, obtained the opinions towards housing policy of Hong Kong and finally made suggestions to the housing policies based on the tenure aspirations and preferences. The study used the psychological and sociological perspective to view the housing needs and housing preferences. Total 214 questionnaires were collected by using convenience sampling method. Data was analysed by quantitative analysis and it resulted there were association between housing needs and demographic characteristics and housing preferences in some areas. This study tried to explore more in other perspectives rather than from traditional economic factors. At last, there are some implications and suggestions after conducting the study.
