AbstractSteroids are cycloalkane based compounds that are naturally produced by the body. They are also artificially produced for pharmacotherapeutics, wherein they are used to control pain, anxiety and for the management of some oral diseases. They amy be administered topically or systemically. They are also immunosuppressive and hence their use should be with caution after weighing the risk-benefit ratio. This review discusses the pharmacology of steroids and its applications in dentistry.
