AbstractA cooling curve set-up is described which by means of a combination of thermal isolation methods allows very long timescale experiments, up to about 24 h over 100 K to room temperature. This allows the study of materials which crystallize poorly, if at all, at greater rates of cooling. Plotting first-difference of temperature versus temperature for fixed interval data gives a very high resolution of events with great sensitivity. The application of the method to waxes is illustrated.
