AbstractA synthetic path is established in which [Pt2(CO)x(PPh3)4-x(μ-S)] (x = 0-2) can be prepared from [Pt2(PPh3)4(μ-S)2] under CO at low pressure whereby reductive desulfurization of a {Pt2 11S2} core gives way to a Pt-Pt bonded {Pt2 1S} triangle with extrusion of COS gas.
