AbstractExamines whether China breached the treaty rights owed to the UK under the Joint Declaration on the Question of Hong Kong 1984 when, in August 2014, restrictions were placed on the number of candidates who could be elected as Hong Kong's Chief Executive. Assesses whether the Hong Kong Basic Law could be regarded as 'subsequent practice in the application of the treaty' within the meaning of the Convention on the Law of Treaties 1969 art.31(3).
