AbstractThe physiological equivalent of the Cantonese vowel rectangle was developed based on objective measurement of tongue positions by using electromagnetic articulography (EMA). Real-time three-dimensional kinematic measurements were taken from 10 adult Cantonese speakers while sustaining 7 Cantonese long vowels embedded in a CV syllable. Considerable differences were found.
