AbstractMorphological changes during the larval development of Balanus reticulatus Utinomi are described. Larval development includes six naupliar stages and a non-feeding cypris stage, following the general pattern of cirripedes. The most distinguishing features of B. reticulatus nauplii are the presence of preaxial hairs on the antennules of stage II to VI and occurrence of non-serrated median spine on abdominal processes of stage IV and V. Differences in larval morphology and setation of appendages can be used to distinguish these larvae from those of other closely related balanoids.
