AbstractThe theoretical development of bidirectional solitons on water using an integrable Boussinesq surface-variable equation was presented. An explicit transformation was presented between the system and a member of the Ablowitz-Kaup-Newell-Segur system. It was found that the bidirectional soliton solution obtained was exact and physically meaningful for water waves to the leading (KdV) level of the perturbation scheme.
