AbstractWith the implementation of economic reform and open policy, China has expanded her foreign trade, utilized a lot of foreign investment, and therefore the economy has been increasingly integrated into the world economy. Because the coastal region is different in the level of socio-economic development, location and accessibility from inland region, the former has more opportunities for development. In the coastal region urban clusters are spreading and new ones are appearing. However, a large floating population, congestion, urban sprawl, and environmental pollution have become serious problems in coastal cities.
