Abstract | A novel series of multi-functional, light-emitting distyrylstilbenes (DSB) with only one end incorporated with first-generation or second-generation propoxy surface functionalized poly(benzylether) type dendritic wedges has been synthesized. They show very similar absorption and emission behavior in both solution and solid-state with comparable energy transfer efficiency and photoluminescence quantum efficiency as compared with the corresponding two-side dendritic wedges substituted counterparts. Single-layer light-emitting diodes using dendritic DSB doped poly(N-vinylcarbazole) (PVK) film as an emissive layer with structure of (ITO/DSB:PVK/Al) have been fabricated and investigated. Interestingly, LEDs based on these dendrimers exhibit better device performance than those of the two-side dendritic wedges substituted dendrimers. © 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved. |
