AbstractType 2 diabetes mellitus is common in Asia and its prevalence is increasing. Whilst the cause of the increase is uncertain, it is likely to be related to socioeconomic and lifestyle changes affecting diet, occupation, transport and leisure activities. Since 1995, we have been following the natural history of hyperglycemia in a cohort of about 3000 adults, in the Hong Kong Cardiovascular Risk Factor Prevalence Study (CRISPS).
