AbstractSpace biarcs are curves in Ed, d≥ 2, composed of two smoothly joining circular arcs. The existence and properties of space biarcs as Hermite interpolants are studied, i.e. two distinct points in Ed and two target directions specified at the two points are interpolated at the two ends of a space biarc. Our approach makes use of some recent results on spherical biarcs [Wan92], which are special space biarcs lying on the unit sphere Sd ⊂ Ed+1, and the one-to-one correspondence between space biarcs in Ed and spherical biarcs on Sd given by the stereographic projection from Sd to Ed.
