AbstractGraft copolymerization of acrylonitrile onto silk fibers (SF) initiated by potassium persulfate-cysteine oxidation reduction system was studied. Effects of monomer concentration, initiator concentration and polymerization temperature on the graft polymerization were investigated. The results of IR and SEM proved that the material obtained is the graft copolymer of acrylonitrile onto SF. Based on the formula of Arrhenius the initiation activation energy and the total activation energy were calculated and the crystallinity and dynamic mechanical property of grafted SF were investigated.
