AbstractSome of the latest modeling advances in the planning, management, and operation of transportation systems are described. The emerging modeling issues for the planning of transportation systems include land use and transportation interaction, network reliability, network design problems, and sustainable transportation problems. The latest modeling issues to surface in the management of transportation systems include road pricing, traffic control, and the provision of information. Latest issues in the operation of transportation systems include vehicle dispatch problems, transit scheduling problems, the development of traffic flow models, and the education and training of road users.
