AbstractHorseradish peroxidase was used to investigate its catalytic effect on the removal of 4-chlorophenol in wastewater. This paper examined different ratios of enzyme and chlorophenol, different addition modes of horseradish peroxidase and hydrogen peroxide, and different sources of wastewater that contained 4-chlorophenol. The results indicated that the removal efficiency of 4-chlorophenol was closely related to the concentration ratio of enzyme and chlorophenol. A ratio of approximately 1000 reached the highest catalytic activity; this activity remained the same after this point even though more of the enzyme was used. The results also suggest that there is no significant difference in the removal efficiency of 4-chlorophenol in the laboratory prepared wastewater and real wastewater.
