AbstractThe A 4Π-X 4Σ - (0,0) band of MoN between 5990 and 6350 Å has been studied using laser induced fluorescence spectroscopy. In addition to observing the stronger ΔΣ = 0 transitions, the weaker ΔΣ = ±1 transitions have also been recorded and analyzed. The 95Mo and 97Mo nuclear hyperfine structures (I = 5 2) give considerable broadening to the F 1 and F 4 branches with six hyperfine components of a rotational line spread more than 0.1 cm -1. The hyperfine linewidths vary with J in the manner expected for spin uncoupling from case (a β) to case (b βJ) in a high multiplicity state. A merged least-squares fit of the present data and the earlier work yielded improved molecular constants of both the A 4Π and X 4Σ - states of the seven isotopic molecules. © 1995 Academic Press.
