AbstractThe IAGR Annual Convention and International Symposium was held in Hong Kong on 11–12th December 2006, hosted by the Department of Earth Sciences, the University of Hong Kong. This conference assembled about 60 earth scientists from more than ten countries. The symposium started with a 30-minute opening ceremony, including an opening speech by the convener Dr. Guochun Zhao, an introduction talk by Prof. M. Santosh, the Secretary General of IAGR, and a welcome talk by Prof. Jonathan Aitchison, the Head of the Department of Earth Sciences (HKU). Total thirty-five oral presentations were delivered and tens of posters were presented at the conference. Dr. Jason Ali, one of the conveners, gave a vote of thanks at the end of the symposium.
