AbstractThis essay first presents a pessimistic view of the respect for constitutional government in Africa. After presenting an interpretation of the possible causes for this state of affairs, the author argues that prospects for constitutional rule in Africa are intimately linked with the processes of accumulation and reproduction and to the central role played by the state apparatus in them. -from Author
