AbstractIn this paper we propose an higher-order Markov chain model for modeling categorical data sequences. We also propose an efficient estimation method based on solving a linear programming problem for the model parameters. Data sequences such as DNA and sales demand are used to illustrate the predicting power of our proposed models.
